September 3, 2006: A pencil's journey home
There is nothing like an Arizona summer. Your grass dries up and blows away. Your bushes and plants shrivle under the 110 degree sun. Your chocolate lab is actually gray from all the dust. The linolium in your car cracks from the heat. You find yourself drinking 20 glasses of water a day and getting very angry when your boss neglects to fill the water coolers for a week straight.
With my freelance identity starting to take a solid shape and more and more work coming through the door from word of mouth, I decided enough was enough. It was time to thank my boss for giving me the opportunity to learn and work with
him, have some cake with my co-workers and wish everyone well. It was time to put all my energy into my freelance work and it was time to do it in the only state I could ever love: Wisconsin.
So, I packed up everything I owned in my giant Grand Marquis. I took one last look at my house, the beautifull palm trees and gorgeouse mountains lining the horizon, coughed up the last bit of dust in my lungs and started the 4 day car ride back to the heartland.
Pencil! Creative is now officially a full-time design studio and looking to make a bunch of cheeseheads very, very happy!
