January 6, 2006: Hey, these things really are pretty usefull! With nothing but a bunch of word-webs, word association lists, profile surveys, and a bunch of random sketches to show for my freelance identity, I was commissioned for my first project. Arrowhead Honda was looking to have 24 showroom displays created for the new 2006 fleet of automobiles. They had hired a designer in October, but were less than impressed with everything brought in. With the 2006 fleet out on the floor and not much time to mess around, Arrowhead was forced to look in a new direction. I was introduced to them through

their printer and asked to help out. The previous designer had employed a trendy design style, hand-written script through out the entire design. However, what works for movie posters and rock albums doesn't necessarily work for an auto dealership. I quickly collected Honda brochures and jumped on the corporate website to get a better idea of the flagship image. Once I had a good idea of what works for Honda, I grabbed my pencil and started putting down ideas. The project ended as an immediate success and opened the doors to more contacts and more work. I came home, looked at my pencils lying on my desk and had an Eureka! moment for an identity. |
